Welcome to the Blue John Gallery
Set below the imposing and breath-taking sights of Mam Tor and Winnats Pass, Castleton is an excellent representation of a traditional English town. However, this area of the Peak District holds an additional treasure beneath is spectacular façade. The Blue John gemstone has supplied a valuable industry and been captivating visitors and adoring a worldwide public for over two hundred and fifty years.
Having set up in business in 1979, crafting Blue John jewellery for local retail outlets in the surrounding Derbyshire tourist destinations – including Chatsworth House - The Blue John Gallery was the name given to the first jewellery boutique opened in Bakewell, Derbyshire by Chris Sellors in 1985 (pictured below)
Over 40 years on and from our Derbyshire workshop, we remain committed to providing the finest quality Blue John jewellery, whilst offering an education and insight into its important role in the history of British gemstones.
From classic and contemporary designs, to unique one-off pieces and special diamond-set jewellery, our team of craftsman have the first choice of gemstone material from the hillside at Treak Cliff, Castleton from which to create all our collections. All being hand crafted and sold with a Certificate of Authenticity to provide piece of mind and traceability to the gemstone source and craftsmanship.
With a passion for the Peak District and in delivering quality, British designed jewellery, alongside Whitby Jet, Derbyshire Blue John is at the forefront of gemstones associated with the UK throughout the world.
Whilst our flagship web boutique www.cwsellors.com remains a destination for all of our collections, including the many jewellery brands we have throughout our stores, for those visiting the Blue John Gallery online we hope they will notice something a little different.
Not only do we proudly focus on our locally sourced and individually hand crafted British gemstone products, but having the opportunity to travel around the world we also feature desirable objects, gemstone ornaments and jewellery designs and have great pleasure and excitement in introducing you to some wonderful and unique pieces.
In addition, with a wealth of creativity within the Peak District, you will also find our Blue John Gallery home to some of the very best examples of the British craftsmanship that is to be found in one of the most visited and best loved national parks in the UK.
