This group of medium to small fishes is quite common in Hjoula. Despite this, some forms are new and have never been studied.
Clupeomorpha become more frequent (four families and 300 species) in the Cenozoic and today are represented mainly by herrings, anchovies, and sardines, that live in the open sea in large shoals and feed on plankton.
